Edward was sorry that Markham couldn't make the Baltimore Conference. It elected Comrade Moyer as Treasurer. They appreciated Markham's name and influence to the fellowship. If Markham has any reports they would like it sent to Harvey P. Moyer. Edward heard that Markham published a new book of poems. He would like a copy to read.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
